QR Code Top Tips!

If you read our previous blog on the benefits of using QR codes on your branded packaging, you’re probably considering including one on your next order of branded greaseproof paper. Before you go ahead and create your design, here are our top tips and best practices for getting the most out of QR codes on your packaging.

Make it personal.

There’s no need to stick to a standard black-and-white QR code if your brand is all singing, all dancing colours. Adding your brand colours and even your logo or a stylish frame to your QR codes design will ensure your brand’s personality shouts from your greaseproof paper! Not only are they more attractive, but high-contrast colours also make QR codes easier to scan.

Check it before you print it!

This might sound obvious, but you’d be surprised at how many times these things are overlooked. Ensure your QR links are active and going to the correct URL/platform. We advise that you also test QR codes at their printed size, before approving your branded greaseproof design to avoid costly reprints. Remember that QR codes need to be large enough and not blurry to be used by your customer. Ideally the QR code should be at least 2cm x 2cm for ease of scanning.

Words matter too.

QR codes are great, but customers often need a little nudge to use them. Add a compelling and relevant call-to-action with the code to give customers a reason to scan and increase their sense of urgency.

Location, location, location

Where you place your QR code on your greaseproof paper really matters – it might look great in the centre of each sheet, but if you’re then using that sheet to line a plate then your efforts are wasted. Ensure customers will have access to the area and consider multiple QR code prints just to be sure!

Don’t go overboard!

So now you’ve realised how amazing QR codes are, it’s tempting to create separate codes for reviews, social media links, sustainability info, your menu….

Bombarding customers with multiple QR codes isn’t a great strategy as they’ll just be overwhelmed and probably won’t use any. Keep it simple and just use one QR code with a landing page for multiple experiences.
